Jon - A return to the Drummond Villa did not disappoint. With just five of us present, or 4½ given that El Pres withdrew after the starters, it made for a more inclusive evening with everyone able to chat together. The food was pretty good, too. My tandoori mix starter was ok without being great but my lamb dansak main was very nice. I think it is the first time there was no bread ordered on a curry night, while there were just two veg dishes ordered but four rice with everyone getting a full portion each. A thoroughly pleasant evening!
John - Back to basics in this back street curry house. Sheek kebab followed by chicken madras. All ok but nothing spectacular.
Graeme - Just the 5 of us this time, although Mark chose to leave after the starter as he wasn't feeling great (nothing to do with the food!). We met, as last time, in the nearby Exmouth Arms which was much busier than before - so crowded that Diggers suggested standing outside (in January?! ... luckily we resisted that!). The 'Villa' served us a very good meal at what was, in this day and age, a very reasonable price. Both my Achari Salmon Tikka starter and King Prawn Sag main were well cooked and tasty. I like this restaurant a lot but (I've never mentioned this before) the toilets are disappointing. They are very cramped and, as a tall person, I find I keep rubbing the top of my head on the ceiling - not very pleasant at the best of times but even worse when the ceiling is covered in condensation. I'll let that go and just say that it was a very enjoyable evening. And, I almost forgot ... they've got both Cobra and Kingfisher on draft!
Neil - After some trouble getting to the Exmouth Arms due to a building site now being on the old route from Euston Station, I enjoyed a few beers with our smaller than usual turnout. Pub was busier than the last visit but not too much of an issue getting a beer so all good. After a short walk to the curry house we enjoyed some quick service getting our beers (a couple on draught even) and taking our order. The Sizzling Paneer starter didn't sizzle much but was very generous and tasty, the Chicken Dansak main equally generous and had quite a thick sauce but was let down by the over-cooked chicken. Rice was also a tad dry. VFM was good but I suspect this was due to our realistic ordering of side dishes (for once!).
