Dominic - It was great to be back after a pretty long absence with a new venue, no less - well done Dave on choosing this modern and up-market eatery! It was a busy night, which helped make the ambience enjoyable, but despite that, the service was reasonably good all evening. I decided on a "Lamb" night so chose the Tandoori Lamb Chops as my starter expecting great things. Unfortunately, the meat appeared undercooked with one item also being tough to manoeuvre. However, this was to be the only disappointment of the night food-wise. My main of a "turned up" Bombay Blast Lamb was excellent! The veg and naan were also good as was the Pinotage, conveniently served by the glass. A free round of liqueurs was also a fine touch and supported my service mark. It was a bit of a toss-up as to VFM as without our discount, it would have been a very expensive night indeed. But all in all, a fantastic night to be back and given the banter and appropriate abuse I received, it was just like never being away!
Dave - V good curry at the India 3 - liked the walrus and carpenter pub before - proper drinking pub. Very efficient service at restaurant apart from getting my chicken curry order mixed up with chicken madras - fantastic beer selection of both draft and bottled kingfisher or cobra - what more could anyone ask for?! Curry and prawn puri both good and free round of Baileys with ice at the end of meal was a nice touch. Overall vfm ok but probably mainly down to the 25% off food secured by the CC (who was that again?) - would hope for a top six return if there is room for another India 'n' in the "top of the flocks".
Richard - A good location Down Sarf near the river, a nice pub to meet in (Walrus & Carpenter), and an attractive large restaurant were good signs. The food was generally good with a top notch mixed grill starter although the price was high. It was great to see Dom out, and he apparently survived his "naga chilli" without ill effect, although from a taster it wasn't as fearsome as billed.
John - Very bland king prawn puree followed by slightly better chicken dopiaza. Keema naan with very little keema. Wouldn't rush back to this place.
Jon - A thoroughly pleasant evening at a good restaurant although it would have been very pricey without the 25% discount. The food was all of a good standard although the lamb tikka element of the otherwise excellent Tandoori Mixed Starter was a bit stringy. For the first time for a while, I returned to my old favourite of a lamb dansak and I enjoyed it very much. Great night!
Graeme - After meeting in the oddly-named The Walrus and The Carpenter, we went on to The India 3 and had a very good meal. It was a surprisingly large restaurant with various side rooms, nicely decorated and with good toilets! To start, I had the Tandoori Platter which was nice, except that I couldn't open up the King Prawn as the shell was so tough. For main, I had King Prawn Pathia which was excellent. They offered both bottled and draught Cobra and Kingfisher but I stuck with the bottled Cobra for consistency (you know what you're getting). I thought the price was pretty good for the quality of the food and the place itself - I think Griff got us 25% off the food which helped.
Mark - On a rainy, cold April day we headed into the City with pints at £6.50+ but managed to stay under the £50 in the restaurant due to Dave's discount voucher. Pub was good and only a short walk to the curry! This is a big venue but as is traditional Currymarks were sat along the back wall with Dom already in situ (welcome back). Starter of Salmon Tikka was decent size and well cooked while Chicken Saslik main was also tasty and well presented. Rice was slightly dry but would have been OK with a more 'saucy' dish. Choice of draft or bottled beer but nothing outside the main two. Enjoyable outing and could be a contender for revisit.
