Graeme - It was good to get out again for our first official outing in 18 months. Nothing much seemed to have changed on Brick Lane (or at the Pride of Spitalfields) except it was much quieter than previously. We ventured to the Brick Lane Brasserie where El Pres had negotiated some discount. Strangely, we had not visited this restaurant before, in its current or any other name. I enjoyed my meal but it was all a bit middle-of-the-road, including my Chicken Xacuti main. The best part was my Reshmi Kebab starter. I'm not convinced that the "Cobra" was Cobra (hence my low score) and the 'hot' towels were cold - the most disappointing I have ever had - Griff must have been apoplectic.

Dave - Great to be back for the first unrestricted Currymark's visit since Feb 20. Enjoyed pre meal pint down the PoS followed by fantastic meal at the brick lane brasserie. The highlight of the meal was the prawn purée which I have given the perfect 10 too. Superb evening - already looking forward to next outing.

Mark - PoS was as good as ever and less crowded than usual. Tout assisted discount negotiated so overall reasonable VFM. My starter was a bit bland and nothing really stood out on the rest of the meal apart from the mango puree although the rice was better than average. I didn't go too hot with my choices due to lack of practice so perhaps that was why it did not excite (rather than me lacking sense of taste re Covid!) Amazed Jon managed to eat all his starter and a main. There was a surprisingly good turnout due to due to my email spam filters failing to pick up some replies so it was even better to see everyone again. Onwards and upwards for Currymarks.

Jon - Absolutely fantastic to be back put on an official curry night. The Pride of Spitalfields was as quiet as once known it on a summer evening, but still lively enough and Brick Lane looked fairly busy. I went for an expensive mixed kebab starter that was worth every penny and my balti lamb sandal was very good, sweeter than a normal dansak but very tasty all the same. A thoroughly enjoyable evening - it's great to be back!

John - Lovely to get back out with the curry club. Fairly typical Brick Lane restaurant – more geared up to the tourist crowd rather than the seasoned curry hound. Sheek kebab followed by chicken tikka minty korai. Both average really – the chicken tikka was a bit tough though. Enjoyed the pre-curry beers in the PoS – Brewers Gold on draught.

Brian - Slowly but surely, things are getting back to something approaching normality. Tim's curry shirt is back, as are the touts on Brick Lane, and 8 of us enjoyed a couple of pints in the Pride of Spitalfields, followed by a good curry. I thought the lamb sag main was really good, the meat being tender and plentiful. My fried fish starter was also very good. Sides, rice, bread all good too. It was good to laugh, even though it was mostly about Dave's SIUYA faux pas from over 20 years ago. Proof, if any were needed, that the curry club is good for your mental health.

Jeff - First official trip back after a year and a half, and we're off to Brick Lane, via the Pride of Spitalfields which is nicely unchanged with a good range of very reasonably-priced beers. Interesting conversation regarding Mark's over-zealous spam filter blocking half the membership. The restaurant was fairly small, with two tables outside on traffic-free Brick Lane. The staff were not exactly bathed in smiles, but fairly efficient, and as with many places, tried to offered us his choice of poppadums and mixed starters for the table, only to be met with a firm no. Not full by any means, but a sprinkling of other punters including families provided some atmosphere.  Altogether, the meal in itself was of around average quality, Portions were large and I couldn't finish my lamb saag. The main problem was the very expensive menu prices - I popped past my local curry house this morning and saw that a typical dish, e.g. lamb bhuna, is £6.50 compared to £13.50 in this place, although veg was roughly the same price.

Tim - We'd booked for six people, but there were eight of us, so there was a bit of a rearrangement with tables. I ended up sitting in a corner, which was rather awkward to get in and out of. The beer menu was somewhat limited, and expensive, with the only "Indian" beer being Cobra. The accompaniments featured a tasty tamarind one, although it was very runny, as was the mango - had they been watered down to save money? The Haryali chicken starter was well cooked with a nice flavour, but the salad was rather minimal. The speciality main of secret brasserie lamb was nicely spicy with a very tasty and rich sauce, but was a bit short of meat. The nan was good, just slightly crispy. Overall it was quite expensive, even after our negotiated discount; not helped by a 12.5% service charge and things like prawn puri at £9, and there was no free round of liqueurs offered, but not having been out for a curry in a while, this may be the new normal pricing.
