Mark - A very enjoyable evening at the Red Leaf Restaurant - better than my day at work with the RBS results. Our first outing to this place right bang in the city and I thought it was fairly good but, as expected, quite pricey. Not too many other patrons but it still took the predicted hour to produce our starters and then they were not hot hence low service mark although post dinner port and hot towels did help. Lamb tikka good, tender and spicy, while my main of Chicken biryani was plentiful and tasty. Was not over impressed with the veg dishes that were the usual overpriced waste of time. Excellent turnout with all except Richard present. Good to see Jon back in the game and he joined us on the train home. I just hope he woke Graeme up at his stop. The wine stain on Currymarks seems to be spreading!

Jon - A good performance by the Red Leaf somewhat let down by the starters being a little under temperature.  The food was all good.  Other than the heat, my mixed starter was excellent and the lamb shank, while not up to the Mehek at its best, was very good. All the accompaniments were very good although the rice was not the biggest portion (not a problem for me as I normally leave some anyway). It was on the pricey side, so you would generally expect little details like the starters being hot to be catered for, so the VFM has suffered.  It was a great evening and our party of 13 helped what might have been an otherwise poor ambience mark.

Brian - I went for fish / seafood. Starter of a couple of large king prawns was excellent, and the main, with monkfish, scallops, more king prawns and another fish, was also very tasty. Pillau rice was good, as was the mushroom bhaji. The restaurant was comfortable, with tables a decent distance apart, rather than cramming in as many punters as possible.

John - Soulless and overpriced. Cold starters, bland main course, good veg though. I got a bit distracted by Jon and Graeme's "love in" so I can't remember much else.

Dominic - An inaugural visit to this eatery that a number of us passed en route to last month's AGM by the river. The place is quite spacious with high ceilings but I felt a bit soul-less as a result. Not too many other diners which seemed at odds with the service being somewhat slow, although all the waiters were attentive when around. My starter of Lamb Chops was not on the entree menu but kindly offered and it was very good quality meat, tender and flavoursome. My main of King Prawn Jalfrezi had quite a kick (well, for me at least) and was also very good. The rice was fine and the sides ok but nothing out of the ordinary. They also had an interesting wine list but most wines were somewhat pricey. A gesture of a round of drinks was also a good touch. However, on balance, not considered good value given the cost.

Alex - Bit slow given the small number of customers.  Starter arrived a bit cool which seems a bit disorganised. Flavours generally OK. My starter was a bit short of zing but the main was pretty good. Garlic-chilli nan was a nice small variation. Mushroom bhaji was a bit nondescript. Came out pretty expensive for what we got. So low vfm.

Jeff - A new place handily placed right in the middle of the City.  I was surprised that it was so empty, that it was not as swish as it looked on its web-site, and that the menu was more traditional than I expected. The room is L shaped, underground, and rather plain.  Good choice of beer.  Starters were expensive considering the portion size (£4.95 for 4 small bits of lamb, although tastily done), and came out luke warm, but mains at an average of £10 were reasonable and a good size, although Vegetable sides were again near £5. Some nameless members of our party ordered the most expensive dishes for the hell of it.  Despite this moan, overall quality was good, and service although rather slow was pleasant.  Altogether, I'd be happy to come back, and I'll be interested to see how it scores.  My guess it that the price will put people off, but with the discount that other restaurants give, it would be very competititve.

Robin - It's been quite a while since we visited a new curry house actually in the City, so I was looking forward to this outing. We waited a very long time for our starters, but after that the service seemed a bit better. Possibly the result of an almost complete turnout - 13 of us including guest Matt. I had the Monkfish Tikka to start; it was absolutely lovely but there were only four small pieces of fish, hence the relatively low mark. My main course was Achari Lamb, and there was plenty of it. Very tender lamb in a beautiful, spicy sauce - absolutely delicious. The special rice was also great and the couple of veg dishes that I tried were pretty good too. So all in all a good meal, but quite expensive at £37 per head. I'd be happy to go back if it makes the top six.

Graeme - This is another of those new smart Indian restaurants that seem to be springing up these days. Plain walls, trendy chairs, up-lit features gave it that 'designer' look but it actually felt a bit soul-less (not helped by the fact that there were very few other customers). I had the Murg Kashmiri Sheek (spicy minced chicken 'sausages') to start - it was tasteless, almost cold and served with no accompaniments at all. My Chicken Madras main was very nice. Something I ate must have contained a lot of garlic based on the comments I received the next morning. It was far too expensive (£37 p/h) for what was, all-in-all, a mediocre meal. Jon correctly observed that I was pissed, a fact also picked up by Mrs S. She said she could tell I was drunk because I kept smiling at her and it made me look "simple".

Neil - Very quiet night so surprising the service wasn't quicker even though we were a large group. A fairly typical curry house but quite expensive given the lack of discount. Yet again, Dom managed to get us a free drink at the end, well done that man. I had a great night and wouldn't hesitate to go there again if had to find a place at short notice, wouldn't book it though. Very close to some good pubs which is a bonus.

Tim - The Red Leaf is a fairly new restaurant, looking smart in red, white and brown. It was quite empty on our visit, and the long table we had felt a bit squashed against the wall. The starter of lamb tikka was fine, if unexciting. There was some confusion over the main course; I'd ordered chicken kadai mirchwala, but when they came to deliver the dishes, this had turned into chicken korai. Apparently it's the same dish, as "look, it starts with the same letter". Again it was pleasant enough, but I was expecting it to be a bit more spicy. The rest of the food was OK, and I rather liked the dal makhani - a house speciality with black lentils. A free round of drinks at the end was welcome, although the overall cost was quite high. Apart from confusion over the main course, the service was quite good.

Dave - Curry was good, but not keen on the ambience and price.
