Jon - Iím always surprised that the Philpot stays in the top six each year Ė it never seems to be a memorable visit, the menu is not exactly inspiring, but the food is always pretty damn good, even if they canít spell. I definitely think that they do the best Reshmi kebab in the City, and I went for the Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi (although they spell it with a lot more vowels) which is hot and tasty with a generous helping of green chillies. The accompaniments were all OK although the nan was a little disappointing. Generally a good meal but the price was a bit lumpy. It was good to see Mr Dignum again Ė he certainly looked as if he hadnít been eating enough curry recently and he also managed to stay awake.

Graeme - The Philpot is a good, dependable curry house. Although not spectacular, it gets the basics right. The service was good but I would have preferred the waiter to ask us what we wanted rather than trying to order for us - Cobra for everyone, plain popadoms for everyone, mixed starter for everyone - of course, we sorted him out. I had the Mixed Starter (in spite of the waiter!) and Chicken Madras which were both very good. The Pilau Rice was excellent (I know it's hard to get excited by it!) but the Nan was a bit disappointing. I was surprised by the (high) size of the bill but felt that the VFM was still reasonable due to the overall quality of the food. The absent Griff missed a treat with the hot towels which were possibly the best I have ever experienced.

Tim - Atmosphere was a little spoilt by a loud party of blokes sitting nearby. The restaurant had the same tiny, naff paper serviettes as last time. I liked the spicy poppadom. Starter of reshmi kebab was OK. Main course of sag chicken had plenty of sag and a reasonable amount of chicken, but not a lot of flavour. Service was rather slow. Overall I think there are better places for the money.

Mark - I know it got very crowded soon after we arrived but that is no excuse to wait over an hour for starters to arrive. Anyone would think the food was fresh! When it did finally turn up my mixed platter was good but not wonderful. The main of Chicken Curry was so bland I have had better in the works cafť. Beer was £4.50 and not as cold as it could have been. Overall not the best of evenings then although it was abviously good to be back with the mob even if some regulars were away.

Robin - A very good performance from the Philpot Tandoori. I had the reshmi kebab to start (spelt reesmi I think); a superb, huge, spicy affair that left me feeling almost full. I had meat korahi for my main course (they delivered chicken korahi but put that right within a couple of minutes) that was tender and flavourful with a lovely aromatic after-taste. The vegetables were all extremely good, including the plentiful special rice. I was glad I ordered a chapatti since I couldnít have managed a paratha, let alone a nan bread. Service was pretty good throughout (marked down slightly for getting my order wrong), and the usual bottled Cobra sufficed. Rather on the pricy side but well worth it in my opinion.

Dominic - Another revisit but this time the evening was somewhat disappointing given the crowded room (I do like my space!) and loud neighbours. My starter was the tandoori "chops" but these were quite dry. The Rogan Josh was better without being a standout and all the sides were fair to middling. Not one of the best evenings I've spent here.
